Zabriskie Memorial
Newport, Rhode Island - 1885
The Zabriskie Memorial Church is a cornerstone of Newport’s architectural and cultural heritage, renowned for its Gothic Revival design and intricate craftsmanship. Our team was honored to contribute to the preservation of this historic landmark, ensuring its beauty and structural integrity endure for future generations.
The project required meticulous attention to detail, from restoring original slate roofing and copper elements to reinforcing the building against the challenges of a coastal environment. Every step was guided by a commitment to authenticity, blending traditional restoration techniques with modern solutions for longevity and sustainability.
Preserving Zabriskie Memorial presented several challenges. The building’s age and exposure to harsh coastal conditions had caused significant deterioration of roofing and metalwork. To address this, we sourced historically appropriate slate and corrosion-resistant copper to replicate the original aesthetic while ensuring durability. The steep roof pitches and ornate detailing demanded precision craftsmanship and careful coordination among trades. Additionally, strict preservation guidelines required us to balance historical accuracy with modern protective measures, ensuring the structure remains resilient without compromising its architectural integrity.
