Situated along the shoreline of Jamestown, The Barnacle —also known locally as Dumpling— features a premium Western Red Cedar taper‑sawn roof, Western Red Cedar siding, and a full suite of lead‑coated copper gutters, downspouts, flashing, and chimney caps. Each component is fabricated and installed for long‑term performance in one of Rhode Island’s most demanding marine environments, where salt air, wind, and open‑water exposure require materials and craftsmanship of the highest caliber.

The Barnacle project reflects the architectural identity of Jamestown’s historic coastal neighborhoods—natural materials, sculpted rooflines, and a design language shaped by generations of New England shoreline construction. For this residence, we installed a Western Red Cedar taper‑sawn roof system, chosen for its stability, refined grain, and proven longevity in salt‑heavy marine climates. Each shingle was hand‑selected and precisely laid to achieve the crisp, uniform texture expected in premium coastal construction.

The exterior envelope continues with Western Red Cedar siding, installed to complement the roof’s natural warmth and to maintain the home’s cohesive architectural rhythm. Cedar’s natural oils and dimensional stability make it ideal for Jamestown’s exposure, allowing the siding to weather gracefully while retaining structural integrity.

To support and protect the cedar assemblies, we fabricated and installed lead‑coated copper gutters, downspouts, flashing, and chimney caps. Lead‑coated copper is a preferred marine‑grade metal for coastal Rhode Island, offering exceptional corrosion resistance and a subdued, architectural finish that pairs seamlessly with natural wood. Each component was custom‑formed on site to integrate with the home’s roof geometry, transitions, and chimney structures.
